What is Safety Town?

Safety Town is a one-week summer program (2 hours per day) for children ages 5–6.

The program teaches real-world safety skills, including:

  • Stranger awareness
  • Traffic and pedestrian safety
  • Fire safety
  • Bicycle safety
  • Bus safety
  • Water safety
  • Poisons (including drugs)
  • Gun safety

Safety Town is fully accredited by the National Safety Town Center and serves as a model for similar programs nationwide. 


Who Can Attend?

  • Children must be 5 or 6 years old during their session
  • No exceptions (not younger, not older)
  • Open to families outside Guilford County

Program Overview

  • Duration: 1 week (Monday–Friday)
  • Time: 2 hours per day
  • Sessions: Multiple sessions offered throughout the summer
  • Locations: Lewis Recreation Center & Barber Park

It’s been a long-standing program in Greensboro and continues to be one of the most popular summer programs for young children.

Registration Information

  • General Registration opens February 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM
  • All registrations are final
  • No session changes allowed for general registration
  • No refunds. No transfers.
  • All registration is completed online only

About Safety Town

Safety Town has served the Greensboro community for over 39 years and is supported by organizations including the Greensboro Police Department and the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club.

The program is fully accredited by the National Safety Town Center and serves as a model for similar programs across the country.


About Safety Town

Safety Town is two-hour a day, one week program (multiple camps per summer) for five (5) and six (6) year old children that teaches safety lessons on strangers, traffic, pedestrians, fire, bicycles, bus, poisons (including drugs), water and guns.
